The Program

Dear Band Parent and Supporter,
Thank you for supporting your child in the Duluth High School Band program. Whether your child is in Concert Band, Symphonic Band, or Symphonic Winds, they all have one thing in common – superior instructional time for their instrument.
Most of our students do not take lessons outside of school for their instrument; however, our program provides every student with more individualized instruction and support so they can improve as musicians and enjoy the experience of being in a band. More comprehensive instruction is achieved through the added position of Assistant Director. While Gwinnett County does not provide funding for this position, it is an integral part of the learning process for our musicians.
The Duluth High School Band Boosters Association (DHSBBA) provides the funds for an Assistant Director each school year. It is the biggest expense in our budget from which each and every student benefits. We are in desperate need of funds to keep this position available to our students.
This year, we are launching our major fundraiser, ‘One of 100 Heroes’. A donation of $100 dollars from a family, relative, business, church group, etc. will reserve a nameplate on the ‘One of 100 Heroes’ musical-themed work of art to be revealed at the band banquet in May 2012. Donors will also be celebrated through our website, our DHS Bands 2012 “One of 100 Heroes” Facebook page, DHSBBA Twitter account, and DHS Bands on YouTube.
This original musical-themed art piece will be on display in the DHS Main Lobby in the 600 Building. It will be a great opportunity for donors to celebrate their students, their community, or their business. Each nameplate will have two lines for customizing the donor message.
Our goal is a minimum of 100 donors, raising $10,000 for the band program. Won’t you join us in this effort? We need students and parents to spread the word via their social media and collect money from donors. The 100 dollars donated is 100% tax deductible because the DHSBBA is a 501(c)3 Not-For-Profit Organization.
The DHSBBA would like to challenge every band student to find just one $100 donation (either from one person/business or group of them). This fundraiser gives our students the chance to make a difference in their school, and we hope they will be the main drivers of the ‘One of 100 Heroes’ campaign on Facebook and Twitter. Watching this campaign succeed will give them a great sense of accomplishment.
To become a Hero, please contact a Duluth Bands student, or use this online form to contribute. Band Students and Parents, please visit the Band Members’ page for more info.
