Duluth High School's Director of Bands and Instructor of Music
Theory, Ms. Danelle Keck, received her Bachelors Degree from the
University of Illinois, her Masters of Music Education from Arizona
State University, and is currently working toward her Doctorate in
music education from Arizona State University.
She taught beginning and middle school band in Solon, Iowa, band and
music in Nottingham, New Hampshire, and High School Band and
Orchestra in Manchester, New Hampshire.
She has been active in marching
band activity for many years. She has written and taught shows for
various high school bands as well as the Arizona State University
Sun Devil Marching Band.
Her current research interests include: chamber music experience at
the high school level, and historical research on women’s bands,
specifically a group called “The Hormel Girls” who traveled, worked
in sales, performed, and were the first all-girl band to compete in
a national marching competition which later became Drum Corps
International.
Ms. Keck has been selected to present at the National Convention of
Music Educators National Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah from
April 19-23, 2006. She will present her research study "The Effects
of Chamber Music Experience on the Attitudes and Performance of High
School Band Students," a quantitative research study completed as
part of her doctoral work with a high school band in Arizona.
Ms. Keck lives with her husband, Tom, Assistant Director of Bands at
the University of Georgia, and her two cats, “Chief” and “Herky”
(named after previous alma maters).
